Lancaster and Morecambe 2's win 5-1

In what was a brilliant match to play and hopefully to watch Lancaster and Morecambe showed a great display of dominance which resulted in a 5-1 win for the Ladies 2nd Team against Springfield. All the Morecambe goals came in an action packed first half, with a more stately 2nd half, where Morecambe held their opposition allowing what could only be seen as a consolation goal.
Morecambe started on form moving the ball around with speed using the width well. The first goal came when midfielder Inman gave a powerful stop in the Morecambe half, then skilfully transporting the ball back up the other end of the pitch releasing the ball in time for Cartmel to make a strong hit into the right-hand corner of the Springfield goal (with a minor deflection from a Springfield stick). Allowing Morecambe to go 1-0 up within the first 10 minutes.
The second goal came from a short corner. The ball was interjected from Charlesworth with Lee providing an impressive skilful aerial shot straight past the Springfield goalkeeper. This gave Morecambe the energy and drive for the rest of a successful game.
Springfield provided a strong and friendly opposition however the combination of Bowman and Wilson in defence was too strong for Springfield in the 1st half of the match. The three remaining Morecambe goals were all of a similar but skilful style. Firstly Charlesworth drove the ball up the right-hand side of the pitch and then across to a well positioned Cartmell to slot it past the goalkeeper. The fourth goal was of a near carbon copy of the previous meaning Cartmell completed the hat-trick. The final Morecambe goal came when defender and man of the match Wilson carried the ball through Springfield passing it across to Ritson further adding to the Morecambe goal total.
The 2nd half was still as thrilling as the first, with more end to end action. However this provided Springfield the opportunity to score one goal, and more on target opportunities. However the Morecambe defensive team stood strong and the match finished at 5-1.
Overall Morecambe worked as a strong team, in what was an enjoyable game. There was impressive play throughout the team. Hopefully this form will continue into the final part of the season, and Morecambe will stay in their current excellent position at the top of the table.
