On Saturday 4th October Lancaster & Morecambe Ladies 3rd team travelled to Blackburn Northern Sports Centre for their match vs Clitheroe & Blackburn Ladies 4s. It was a bright and still day - the cold has not arrived just yet!
L&M won the toss and chose to have first push back, which meant C&B chose to play with their backs to the sun - causing the occasional visibility problem for L&M! However, the team did not let this get in their way, and the first half proved to be a very level contest. Possession was split very evenly, with both sides conceding penalty corners, but neither conceding a goal. It played out this way until the half-time whistle blew, with the score 0-0.
The second half was a different story, with L&M coming out fighting. They won much more possession and the ball was rarely in their defensive half of the pitch. After several fruitless penalty corners, the breakthrough came with a great short corner scored by Abbie Malin. Not content with just one, a second shortly followed, again from Abbie, giving L&M a more comfortable lead over their opponents. B&C did not go down without a fight however, and after some strong attacking from them, and a weak moment from L&M, Clitheroe had a score on the board. In response, L&M fought back into their opponent's D, and Chloe Read scored a third goal shortly before the final whistle blew.
The match ended 3-1 to Lancaster & Morecambe, their first win of the season, and hopefully the first of many!
